Truth Walks

Truth Walks offered by the Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre (SRSC) are guided tours that share the history and ongoing legacy of the Shingwauk Indian Residential School. These walks provide participants with an opportunity to learn about the experiences of Survivors, the broader residential school system, and the resilience of Indigenous communities. Rooted in truth-telling and education, the walks are designed to foster dialogue, reflection, and a deeper understanding of reconciliation in practice.

Guided Truth Walks must be booked a minimum of two weeks in advance using the Truth Walk Request form.

In-person Truth Walks are offered Monday-Friday, starting at either 9am or 1pm. They are a 3 hour commitment. Walks take place outdoors rain or shine, so please come dressed for the weather.

Disclaimer: The in-person option for the walk takes place over uneven terrain, and enters into spaces that may not be accessible for those with mobility issues. If someone in your group requires accessibility accommodations, please let us know.

Reclaiming Shingwauk Hall Exhibition

Reclaiming Shingwauk Hall is a permanent, Survivor-driven exhibition that transforms the former Shingwauk Indian Residential School into a space for truth-telling, learning, and community healing. Developed in collaboration with the Children of Shingwauk Alumni Association and local Indigenous partners, this exhibition centres the voices and experiences of Survivors while challenging visitors to reflect on the legacy of residential schools.

The exhibition space is open week days from 8:30am to 4:30pm. To receive a guided tour or instructional programming related to the exhibition please contact the Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre at ShingwaukDG@algomau.ca
